Blog Tour & Review: Rachel Brooks' "Just Breathe"

Title: Just Breathe
Author: Rachel Brookes
Release Date: 5th July 2013
Genre: New Adult

blurb:

For Savannah Rae, living life without her parents was unimaginable. But being blamed for her first love’s suicide? That destroyed every part of who she was.

Gone were the days of innocence, happiness, and dreams. Now her days simply meant attempting to survive. In her mind, her only means for that was replacing her grief with men, booze and the fast life. And for five years, it worked.

When an opportunity to leave the nightmares of her past in Australia opens up, she takes it. Los Angeles beckons - with hopes of late nights, new beginnings, and the promise of a string of endless men to distract her, she can’t wait to dive in.

One thing she didn’t count on was meeting her match.

In the eyes of outsiders, Tate Connors has it all; the ultimate LA bachelor who is content with his lifestyle of wild nights, women and one night stands. He's Mr. Unpredictable with looks that could destroy any woman with one glance.

The craziness of Los Angeles throws them into the chaotic path of each other. Savannah becomes the perfect game, and Tate becomes the ultimate prey. Lines are crossed, emotions are smashed, and the idea of who they truly are begins to be tangled.

However, one thing will become clear.

They are more alike than either one could ever have imagined.

My Review:

Savannah (Sav) Rae is living a shattered life. First she faces her parent's death. And if that wasn't enough, she was blamed for her boyfriend's suicide. Too broken to pick up the pieces, Savannah's only companions are alcohol & an endless stream of nameless, faceless men.  When she is presented with an opportunity to end her despair she takes a leap of faith & heads to Los Angeles. Little does she know, she's about to meet the challenge of a life time. Tate Connors....

Tate *sigh* has everything he could possibly want, money, good looks & plenty of women. Tate is a master of using flash to distract others from his brokenness, but one person recognizes & understands his hidden pain, Sav. When these two meet it creates an explosion of heat & passion resulting in sizzling sexual tension that will keep the reader engrossed until the very end!

What I Thought:

I really enjoyed this book!!!  Sav is fierce, hilarious & will always speak her mind I just couldn't help but love her! Tate *sigh again* Tate, he's handsome, sarcastic & brooding. The chemistry between these two is absolutely fantastic & will have the reader feeling every emotion Sav & Tate feel for each other. "Just Breathe" is a must read!!! Why do I only have 5 stars???

excerpt:

“What are you doing? You should get out of here while you can.” I recognized the voice immediately. I opened my eyes to find Tate slumped in the chair opposite me with his jaw clenched and his eyes dark and intense. He lifted the glass in his hands to his lips and took a swig, his glare at me never faltering.
“Drinking on the job? You aren’t setting a good example for your staff,” I scoffed, rolling my eyes.
“It’s my bar and I can do whatever and whomever I want.” He smirked as he took another swig of his drink. “Seriously though, you should get out of here.”
I looked at him in astonishment. Who the hell did he think he was? “Are you kicking me out?”
“No, I’m just informing you as the caring brother of your new best friend that I know a thing or two about the regulars at my bar and it would be best if you got out of here.” His eyes travelled to where Mr. Rock Star was now making his way toward us through the crowd, his eyes narrowed in on Tate. What was it with these two?
“You need to leave,” I exclaimed. I tried to glare at Tate, but I knew my eyes were softening and I hated it.
At the sound of my words, he shook his head in defeat. He opened his mouth to say something but shut it just as fast, deciding otherwise. He gave me one last pleading look as he stood from his seat before stalking toward the blonde who accompanied him to his office earlier. He wrapped his arms around her neck and pulled her toward him, his mouth landing on hers in full view of the bar. My stomach dropped at the sight of them.
I shook my head to forget all thoughts of Tate Connors and turned my attention back to my acquaintance for the night. I smiled halfheartedly and moved my chair toward his, my knees touching his giving just a little more indication on how this night was going to end. “My name is Savannah.” I grinned and held out my hand to him. Why did I use my real name? Usually I was Tanya or Stacy.

About My Girl:

Rachel Brookes is from a coastal town on the east coast of Australia where beaches, kangaroos and surfers roam free. She writes angst ridden love stories with a pinch of craziness, a dash of drama, a cup of romance, a spoonful of sexiness and the main ingredient hot guys. Rachel sometimes forgets to eat, sometimes forgets to sleep and sometimes can’t remember the last time she cleaned her apartment but that’s because she is in a long term relationship with her laptop and they are constantly writing together.  When she does step away from her laptop she can be found taking too many photos, making scrumptious cocktails, laughing at Adam Sandler movies and spending her time with her amazing family and friends. With her first novel, Just Breathe, due to be released in July 2013, her dream of releasing a book will become reality. With another three books already taking up her mind, she cannot wait to start this crazy ride.
