Playlist/Interview: S.A. Huchton's "MAVEN"

Title: MAVEN
Author:  SA Huchton

Blurb:

Since losing her parents at 14, young prodigy Dr. Lydia Ashley has focused on one thing: an appointment on the Deep Water Research Command Endure. Now 21, she’s about to realize that dream, but nothing is how she imagined it would be. Her transitional sponsor forgets her, her new lab is in complete chaos, and, as if that weren’t enough, she’s about to discover something so horrific it could potentially destroy all life on the planet.

Daniel Brewer, a noted playboy and genius in his own right, may be exactly what she needs… Or he may make everything worse.

Has she finally found a puzzle she can’t solve?

SA sent me this interview she had with Lydia & Daniel, I hope y'all enjoy it as much as I did!

to avoid confusion, Lydia will be in pink, SA in purple (including actions) Daniel in blue, enjoy.......

So, I messaged Lydia a while back and asked if she might be up for a little research. When she asked what I meant, she was pretty amused when I told her I needed to come up with some songs related to her and Daniel’s story in Maven. Surprisingly enough, she immediately accepted the challenge and dove in to researching music forty years before her time. I arranged for a video chat a few weeks later, and made sure to transcribe the whole conversation for you folks at home. The following is the result…
*connecting*
*screen fades up to Lydia sitting in her room on the Endure*
Me: Hey, Lydia! Thanks for taking my call. I know you guys are super busy, so I'll try not to take up too much of your time today.
Lydia: Don't be silly. It's okay to take breaks every now and then. This is a fun excuse to get out of the lab.
Me: So, did you have a chance to work on that thing I asked about a while back?
Lydia: Actually, I did. Do you want the answers now? I didn't get all of them written out, but I can give you some of them. *pulls out tablet* I still have the reference site open, so maybe I'll find some more as we're talking.
Me: Sounds great. Where do you want to start?
Lydia: Well, one of them I didn't need to look up. You asked about the Ambassador's Ball...

Me: Oh! Yes. Let's have that one.
Lydia: You probably know the song Daniel and I danced to. It's called One and Only. Of course, you would know it as being sung by Adele, but it was another vocalist who sang at the actual event. I think she was hired by the hotel.
Voice in background:
Did you give her my pick for your grand entrance?
Me: Is that Daniel?
Lydia: *sighs* Yes. When he heard about this, he decided he wanted to play too.
Daniel: *pushes in to frame* Poker Face. When I heard that one, Lydia's walk down the stairs was the first thing I thought of.

Lydia: Seriously? Because if that's how you want to play it, I'm giving you Moves Like Jagger as a theme song for when I first met you.
Daniel: Very funny. Though, the idea of you kissing me until you're drunk sounds like a lot of fun
.

Lydia: I was trying to be serious with this.
Daniel: *grins at her* Fine. Then let me add one more. The Only Exception by Paramore, for when we were on the balcony in your hotel room.
Lydia: *blushes* I see your song and raise you Awake by Secondhand Serenade.
Daniel: I call. Stay by Rhianna with Mikky Ekko.
Lydia: *grins at him* I can see you've given this a lot of thought. What about Hazy by Rosi Golan?

Daniel: You've been watching me sleep? That's not at all creepy.

Me: Uh, guys? Do I need to give you a little, um, private time? This is getting a little... intense.
Lydia: *shoves Daniel out of frame* Sorry. He's SUPPOSED to be heading to evening muster, but you know how he is.
Me: *chuckles* Oh yes. I know. So, all of those are more for the second half of the story, but what about the beginning?
Daniel *from off camera* : The Show by Lenka! That was totally her when she got here!

Lydia: *grabs and throws pencil at him* Don't you have somewhere to be?
Daniel: *laughs and door opens and closes*

Lydia: Ugh. He's such an idiot sometimes.
Me: He has his moments. But what about you? What song would you pick?
Lydia: *thinks* Hmm. *scrolls through something on her tablet* Oh! This one looks about right, for either of us, really.Trouble Sleeping by Corinne Bailey Rae. We were both guilty of a bit of denial, I think. That song speaks to that a lot.
Me: Wow. That's quite the list you've given me here.
Lydia: Is it? I wasn't sure if it would be enough. I can always keep looking for--
Me: No, no. Really, it's fine. I think the ones you chose are perfect. I wouldn't want to keep you any longer. Plus, these calls to the future are a bit... taxing on one's wallet.
Lydia: Of course. I understand. If you want to do this again some time, just let me know!
Me: Thanks, Lyds. Tell Daniel I said thanks, too.
Lydia: Sure thing. See you!

*monitor fades to black*

You don’t even want to know what’s involved to call the future. For real. I’m going to have some serious explaining to do to my credit card company… and maybe the NSA. Anyoneknow how to dispose of depleted Thaesium? Asking for a friend…
