Mythology Blog Tour: Review and Cowboy of the Week: Micah

Author: Helen Boswell

Genre: YA Urban Fantasy

Hope Gentry doesn’t believe in Fate. Born with an unusual power to see the dark memories of those around her, Hope just wants to be a normal teenager. But on the first day of her senior year of high school, she finds herself irresistibly drawn to a transfer student named Micah Condie. At first glance, Micah seems like a boy that most girls would dream about. But when Hope's powers allow her to discover Micah's darkest secret, she quickly becomes entangled in the lives of mythical entities she never dreamed existed. Was this her destiny all along? And will her powers help her survive the evil of the Demon Impiorum?
Mythology isn’t just for English class anymore.

Micah, Hope and Jonathan

My Review:

I actually came upon this book by chance, well not so much chance as Micah. Let me explain so y'all don't think I'm a crazy person. See, Micah's on Twitter (oh yes I'll give you his info at the end of this post so y'all can stalk him). So Micah seemed to have a large female following *fans self* the farther I read into the book, the more attached I became to the characters. Helen does an outstanding job of making her characters not only richly deep and three dimensional but unafraid to stay stagnant but willing to bend and grow for the greater good of their loved ones. So, when Helen approached me & asked if I'd like to be on her Mythology tour, I was deeply honored & extremely excited to do so. Ok let's get to Micah *cough, cough* I mean Mythology!

Helen starts laying the ground work for this exciting book with her main female character Hope. I fell in love with her on the first page. Hope knows what she wants from life & isn't afraid to go after it. She's had many terrible tragedies in her life, but continues to be eternally optimistic. Sorry y'all no "Bella-like" (Helen's words) character here. Once Micah *sigh* enters into the picture, the book takes you on a roller-coaster ride of emotions See, Micah has a huge secret that not even he's aware of. Once the secret comes to light, not only is Micah's life in danger but Hope becomes a target as well! Micah & Hope turn to the elusive & charming Jonathan, who carries many dark secrets of his own. Not only does Micah despise him, he also doesn't trust Jonathan to keep Hope & himself safe. When Hope & Micah come in contact with the evil forces hellbent on killing them, they have no choice but  to follow Jonathan's instructions. Can Hope & Micah overcome the chaos that threatens to pull them under, or will they unite with Jonathan and fight the epic battle of good and evil?

What I thought of this book:

I found myself completely engrossed in this book. Helen takes the time to introduce you to each of her characters but as soon as Micah *sigh* enters the picture, you better hold on because it's non stop action. Hope, Micah & Jonathan all have intriguing background stories that are pulled out here & there throughout the story in away that is so masterful. You'll find yourself gripping the book & gasping saying "what? No way!!" Helen doesn't waste your time with mindless fluff & useless information. Each tidbit is a piece of the puzzle that brings you closer to discovering who these people really are. Micah & Hope's love story is built on trust & adoration for each other. I think the thing I loved most about Helen's characters is none of them are perfect, not even Micah (sorry ladies). BUT they continuously strive to do what's right for those they love. They each want to learn from their past mistakes to build a better life. I give Mythology 5 out of 5 cowgirl hats!!

Where to buy Mythology:

***COWBOY OF THE WEEK***

As a said earlier, Micah is the reason I even started reading Mythology for this  and many other reasons he's my Cowboy of the Week! One of the main reasons I LOVE Micah is because he's not perfect, no you read that correctly! See, Micah has a dark secret he didn't even know about himself. No its not the cheesy 'I'm a sparkly vampire & we can't be together so I'm gonna be very melodramatic the rest of the book'.  This is a life changing secret that forces Micah to constantly teeter between honorable & wicked decisions. There are plenty of malicious creatures out there attempting to dig their claws in him & drag Micah to their side of the battle. Through all those adversities, Micah does his absolute best to never waver *sigh* he learns with the help of Jonathan to use his abilities for good. Micah doesn't want to be "the good guy" for Hope *eye roll* he's much deeper than that, he wants to choose virtue because he knows he can overcome the dark & help fight against it.
That's not enough to prove you should run out & get your hands on Micah *cough, cough* I mean Mythology? Ok how about Micah's profound love for Hope, he would do anything to keep her safe including risking his own life. Not that the bad ass Hope needs much saving! Micah even gives Hope some time & space to think when she needed it most.  Their love is built on mutual trust & adoration for each other.

Helen Boswell is originally from upstate New York. She obtained her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from the University at Buffalo and currently teaches biology at Southern Utah University.
